Toorox 03.2009 finished

A new version of Toorox has been finished, which contains the recent KDE 4.2.1.
A short release cycle of only 4 weeks was necessary, because some users advised
me that after the installation, it appeared a strange mouse pointer movement. This
has been solved by including the USB modules directly into the kernel.
So now it is possible to install Toorox on an external USB hard disk without a
ramdisk. Additionally there was a problem with the installation to a new created
partition which has been solved now.
In fact the release of 03.2009 was planned one week before but then i have noticed
a 50% load factor of the plasma process. The reason was lancelot (Fixed devices +
Favorite Applications on the desktop), which had problems with QT-Core 4.5. So i had
to build the whole KDE with QT 4.4.2 again.
Some users wanted an anti-virus application within Toorox to scan a not running
operating system for infected files. Now this is possible by the assistance of ClamAV.
Amarok 2 has also been added as another multimedia player.

Go into the download section now - Toorox 03.2009 is ready for download there ...

NTFS Bug in 02.2009_1 fixed

There is a small bug in Toorox 02.2009 which disallow NTFS partiton mount via a mouse click on the desktop. I have fixed that issue and released an updated version
(Toorox 02.2009_1). If you have already downloaded 02.2009, the issue can be solved with only one command:
- Click on Konsole and type in:
- sudo chmod 4755 /bin/ntfs-3g
Done!

Toorox 02.2009 released!

Toorox 02.2009 has finished and ready to download from Toorox Downloads.
Toorox KDE3 has come to an end and the last available version is 10.2008,
which contains KDE 3.5.10. There is no collateral development of Toorox with
KDE3 and so - Toorox 02.2009-KDE4 is Toorox 02.2009 (no suffix not anymore).

Main Components:
  • Kernel 2.6.28-gentoo-r1
  • Xorg-Server-1.5.3
  • KDE 4.2.0
Office:
  • OpenOffice 3.0.1
  • Kontact 1.4
Web:
  • Minefield 3.0.6
  • Kmail 1.11.0
  • Thunderbird 2.0.0.19
Multimedia:
  • Vlc 0.9.8a
  • Cinelerra 20090210
  • Ardour 2.7.1
Nearly all packages were upgraded. As working environment KDE 4.2.0 is there for you.
Now booting from an optical USB drive is possible. Since some people had problems with
the driver for their VGA card (black screen after booting), you can now use the cheatcode
"xmodule" out of the bootmenu by pressing on the TAB key and attach it at the end of the line
(e.g. xmodule=vesa). I have written a small script that removes kwlan to configure your network
card (LAN+WLAN). You can now mount your NTFS partitions using the ntfs-3g driver (read-
write). Compiz has removed, cause Kwin does the compositing desktop effects now.
The
activation of these effects happens automatically when you have installed the binary driver for
your graphics card. There are some extensions in the Toorox Installer, so now you have
an option to create a new Linux partition from the device selection box. You have also the
option to choose between Toorox and Windows as your default operating system, when you
have installed the bootmanager.

More changes are listed in the Changelog ...
I hope you like it and wish you much fun with Toorox 02.2009.
