Hi
fater failing to install Gentoo perfectly, i found Toorox and decided to install it.
the installation was done but it fails to boot. i doubt on the following steps:
1. i have another bootloader on my PC and added the lines in menu.list of toorox to the active grub. should i change the line in menu.list of toorox?
2. i installed toorox on ext4 partition. can toorox be installed on ext4? what is the recommended file system for toorox?
Regars

Hi hadian!

the boot failure reason is: toorox needs the toorox grub for booting correctly!
Overwrite your installation and then it seems to be work.
I have installed toorox 10.2009 on friday, with ext4. No problems !
with regards

fynn ;)

Hi hadian,

You have to add a second line to your existing menu.lst for Toorox:
root (hd0,7)
This is en example when Toorox is installed on /dev/sda8.
For /dev/sdb4 you have to add:
root (hd1,3)

Hi
i have installed toorox on hda10, and the related lines in grub (in my active grub of Fedora) are:

title Toorox
root(hd0,9)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda10 vga=791 nomce noapic lang=us

should i reinstall the toorox and install its grub on MBR?

root(hd0,9)
it should be
root (hd0,9)
Have you tried reiserfs for your Toorox installation?

i changed the line to root (hd0,9) but it failed again.
I reinstalled Toorox and this time i used reiserfs and asked toorox to install its grub on MBR. the system could boot without any problem. again i recovered the grub of Fedora and added lines in Toorox grub to Fedora grub and this time the toorox could boot  . it seems the problem was with ext4.

another question: this computer can connect to internet only via a pptp vpn connection. (i am new to KDE) how can i create a pptp vpn connection in KDE? is the required packages installed by default? if not, how can i download the packages using another system and install them in toorox?

Okay,

The required source packages are:

- NetworkManager-openvpn-0.7.1.tar.bz2
- NetworkManager-pptp-0.7.1.tar.bz2
- PolicyKit-gnome-0.9.2.tar.bz2
- lzo-2.03.tar.gz
- mobile-broadband-provider-info-20090602.tar.bz2
- network-manager-applet-0.7.1_p20090824.tar.bz2
- openvpn-2.1_rc20.tar.gz

You can download them from here:
distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/

Then mount your Toorox partition and move the packages into:
/usr/portage/distfiles

Start Toorox and install the 3 packages:

- networkmanager-pptp
- networkmanager-openvpn
- nm-applet

Thanks. i installed the packages and created the VPN connection. but when i want to connect to it, it fails with this message:
The VPN connection failed because the VPN service failed to start.
the other problem is that i should manually start the service and applet by "sudo /etc/init.d/Networkmanager start" and "kdesu nm-applet". is it possible to do these commands automatically when the kde starts?

Sorry, i forgot the pptpclient.

Download with Fedora the following packages:

- iproute2-2.6.29-1.tar.bz2
- pptp-1.7.2.tar.gz
- pptp-command-20050401.gz

move them into /usr/portage/distfiles of Toorox.
Then install: pptpclient
