New toorox x64 installation on HP Pavilion laptop. I am trying to play mp3 but vlc does not seems to support it, nor the other audio players ? :dry:

Have a look in Systemconfig -> Driver,Multimedia:
Click on "mp3" - then you are able to play mp3's via Audacious
Click on "Multimedia-Libs" - then all necessary multimedia libraries will be installed
and you can listen to mp3's via VLC, too.

I followed your advice and the situation has improved. That is, kplayer (or kmplayer) play mp3 and e.g. avi files without problems. However, audacity and amarok play mp3 with a kind of "jitter" or "chopped" sound or I don't know well how to describe it. In any case, the music is playing in a very weird way, as if interrupted very quickly at high frequency ....

Hmm, start vlc in a terminal and open a mp3 file.
Does vlc print any errors in the terminal?
